UCS Desktop Virtualization Services
The costeffective, flexible solution for desktop virtualization UCS Desktop Virtualization Services (UCS DVS) is an Open Source software for the provision, operation and central management of workstation software (“desktops”) via virtualization. Desktop virtualization reduces administrative efforts as well as energy and maintenance costs while increasing the flexibility and security of the IT workstations. UCS DVS realises this via the combination of the easyto use management tools from Univention Corporate Server (UCS) with tried-and-tested Open Source technology.
In addition, UCS DVS also includes a complete operating and management system for thin clients. In this way, this solution brings server and network administration, virtualization and thin client management together in one integral solution, which is incredibly easy to administrate and easily integrated in existing infrastructures.
This unique combination not only cuts costs, energy consumption and the efforts required for operation and administration, but also leads to increased efficiency during rollout and in the management of computer workstations. This increases availability and security.
Tried-and-tested technology with innovative management system UCS Desktop Virtualization Services is based on the tried-and-tested and costeffective Open Source technology from Univention Corporate Server (UCS) and can be easily administrated via a webbased user interface. This can be used, for example, to perform assignments between virtualized desktops and users.
Further functions include the administration of the desktops themselves with optimised utilisation and their distribution on different virtualization servers as well as the fully automatic creation of desktops from templates.
UCS DVS is also the only desktop virtualization solution to combine technologies for the administration and operation of thin clients and virtualized desktops in one product. This allows the quick and effective performance of related administrative procedures.
UCS DVS can be easily integrated in Microsoft Active Directory environments. In this way, the product supports the construction of thoroughly integrated solutions, from user administration to virtualization right up to the thin client infrastructure – even in environments in which Microsoft Windows is predominantly used for administration and desktop operation.
UCS Desktop Virtualization Services offer the following advantages:
For user organisations:
· Reduction of administrative efforts as the desktop operating system and applications are not installed on the PCs, but provided centrally and duplicated
· Reduction of hardware costs thanks to consolidation of desktop systems on highperformance server hardware
· Reduction of energy costs with the employment of energysaving and lownoise thin clients
· Increased data security thanks to central storage
· Use of highperformance, scalable and triedandtested virtualization technology
